Reliable & Scalable ETL Solution for AWS Workloads
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates AWS Glue from other similar products?
I maintain more than 100 data pipelines that collect data from different sources like Shopify, Unicommerece etc. My team depends on these pipelines for analytics and reporting. AWS glue has helped us build and manage ETL jobs without worrying about infrastructure. It integrates well with other AWS Services like Athena, S3 Buckets, scales with our workloads, and reduces the effort needed to keep our data pipelines running.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
It is serverless, integrates with S3 and Redshift, easy to schedule jobs, handles 100+ pieplines easily, and easy to monitor.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Sometimes debugging can be difficult, sparks job startup time, and sometimes costs can add up, also with 100+ pipelines , logs become hard to interpret.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Its one of the best Cloud service provider that I have used, I have been using AWS and its services for over 5 years now, for anyone considering this product, if you are already AWS users then its great, you can easily get started, just a few points to keep in mind when using this product is learn IAM and Spark basics perfectly, and always monitor costs, set alerts and use Data Catalog religiously.
Pros
- Helps Innovate
- Continually Improving Product
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing

Painless data pipeline using serverless power.
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates AWS Glue from other similar products?
AWS glue is a serverless service. It is as simple as writing a Python script and running it, while AWS handles the capacity scaling, and the infrastructure part. It let's us focus on solving the domain specific challenge and don't bother much about infra provisioning. Being an AWS service, it integrates nicely with other AWS services like step functions, S3 etc. to give seamless experience. Being a pay per use service, it is easy to experiment and do PoCs without costing much.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Pay per use and serverless nature. Managing infrastructure is often a challenging as well as time and cost consuming aspect of data processing. AWS glue manages the compute capacity while offering flexibility in terms of compute power. You don't have to set up an entire infrastructure and clean it up later in case you need to do trials.
What do you dislike most about this product?
It's worker auto scaling sometimes behaves in unpredictable manner. It's single script nature often cause issues when we try to develop scripts in a modular fashion. Adding additional libraries and extra imports are bit inefficient (but there are options for it, referencing zip, whl or even plain script files in S3)
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If your data primarily resides in AWS, the Glue is a very good candidate for building data pipelines. For production level complex use cases, try to avoid visual glue jobs. Visual gle job is a pain to replicate, debug and troubleshoot. Default configurations are a bit generous ( and hence costly). So adjust worker type, count and job timeouts to prevent accidental cost spikes.
Pros
- Trustworthy
- Respectful
- Security Protects
- Helps Innovate
Cons
- Vendor's Interest First
- Less Generous
- Under Delivered

What differentiates AWS Glue from other similar products?
As per my knowledge and experience I think AWS glue integration with other AWS services like AWS Athena, quicksight, cloud watch, cloud trail etc that really help to wisely uses of this AWS glue ETL service suites and my favorite is we can write ad-hoc ETL job for our requirements.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
My personal favorite aspect ot AWS GLUE is that it Will provide almost all required services of ETL in one place to access quickly.
What do you dislike most about this product?
I dislike about this AWS GLUE is that cost of glue crawler rerun is so high and when we rerun default it will crawl all / everything even we have small addition or deletion of data.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If you want all in one ETL product suites then AWS glue has that capabilities to accomplish it.
