From my experience, Device42 stands out because it gives a complete view of the IT environment without requiring a lot of manual effort. The automatic discovery keeps asset information accurate, and the dependency mapping helps me understand how servers, applications, and network devices are connected. As a Systems Administrator, this makes troubleshooting, maintenance, and change planning much easier.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

One thing I appreciate most about Device42 is its automated discovery. It keeps our asset inventory accurate without requiring constant manual updates, which saves a lot of time. As a Systems administrator, having reliable information about servers, network devices, and virtual machines in one place makes daily management much easier and helps me work more efficiently. It has made day-to-day administration smoother and given our team a much better understanding of the overall infrastructure.

What do you dislike most about this product?

One thing I don't like about Device42 is that it can take some time to learn all of its features. The platform offers a lot of functionality, but the interface can feel a little overwhelming for new users. Once you get used to it, it becomes much easier to work with, but the initial learning curve could be smoother.

The area where Device42 stands out is dependancy mapping. Many tools can provide an inventory of devices, but Device42 focuses heavily on showing how systems are connected to each other. It can map relationship between applications, databases, servers, network devices, and cloud workloads. And if compared to larger enterprise platforms like ServiceNow, Device42 is often viewed as faster to deploy and easier to operationalise.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The thing that makes the product appealing is that it feels infrastructure-focused from the beginning. Some enterprise platforms are extremely powerful but require a lot of customisation before they become operationally useful. And i also like that the discovery process is largely automated. Keeping asset inventories and CMDB records updated manually is one of those tasks that almost every infrastructure team struggles with.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The area that can be frustrating is the user interface. Functionally, it works well, but parts of the UI feel a bit dated and not always as polished as newer infrastructure management platforms. Some workflows especially bulk operations, reporting, or navigating between related assets that can take more steps than expected. And i also think the documentation and upgrade experience could be better.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I would strongly recommend taking advantage of a proof of concept before fully committing. Device42 is powerful, but it is not the kind of product we deploy casually in a day or two. Spending time testing discovery, dependancy mapping, integrations, and reporting against our actual infrastructure will help us to understand how well it fits our operational workflow. And another thing i would tell potential buyers is to be realistic about the learning curve.
